“ A little hidden gem in the middle of nowhere. Fresh seafood made to order but the wait is worth it. The market has lots of great items to peruse while you wait for your order. ”
“ How did we not know this place was in our area just 20 minutes away?!? Looks like a farmers market in the middle of nowhere ... but boy were we surprised. Super fresh and tasty seafood items ... mostly apps, salads and sandwiches including a few additions to their regular menu. But everything was just so good ... especially their oysters. Variety of drinks including wine and hard cider too. Order and pay at the counter ... then take your number to outdoor dining area with picnic benches and a couple tables. Self-serve water and hot sauce complement the meal delivered to your table. The only thing I wasn't 100% on was the hot sauce automatically added to my clam chowder ... which made it taste a bit artificial. Might ask them to hold the hot sauce next time ... if they can. Price was a bit higher than expected at over $110 for 3 (not-that-large) sandwiches, 2 clam chowders, and 6 oysters. But overall everything was pretty decent. However ... may need to do take-out if it's rainy or too cold/hot outside and not sure if it'll taste as good. ”
“ Stopped in here for lunch, specifically for the clams and oysters. Service was congenial and helpful. Upon entering , we were recognized as newcomers so someone stepped up to tell us how things worked. We ordered and waited at the outside tables for our order. Food came out very quickly. Oysters on the 1/2 shell were freshly shucked and served with a bit of mignonette and lemon. I prefer a bit more of a briny oyster, but they were tasty. The clam roll and oyster roll were shared by two of us. The seafood was nicely fried. My dining partner would have preferred a bit more sauce on the side. The only negative was the clam chowder. If I had my eyes closed, I would have thought I was eating bacon and potato soup. No taste of clam at all as too much bacon fat overpowered any seafood flavor. 12oz canned sodas are $2.25 There are no inside dining tables. Two restrooms (m/f) are in a small trailer behind the outside dining tables. No handicapped accessible restrooms were evident. Plenty of produce and local honey and other pantry items were available for purchase. ”
“ So happy I finally go to try this place. We got the shrimp sandwich and the clam sandwich, both were fantastic. Lightly breaded, great flavors, good rolls/buns and other little extras on it. Would definitely come back and try some other items! ”
“ Took a little jaunt here for lunch. It was a trek to what seemed like the middle of nowhere, but it was worth it. Prices are a little eye-watering these days ($8 for a small cup of clam chowder and $20 for six fried oysters), but let me tell you, each bite was an absolute delight. I wouldn't say our bellies were full, but our taste buds were definitely very happy. ”
“ Since reading a review about Sweet Amalia's, I've been wanting to stop on our way to or from the shore but their hours are limited (Thursday-Monday). Fortunately, we were driving home from the shore on a Friday afternoon and decided to stop despite it being quite out of the way (Cape May to Philly burbs). I knew I had to order their oysters which come from their oyster farm along with the fried clam sandwich I kept hearing about. We ordered inside and when the food was ready, they brought it out to us at one of the picnic tables. Denise at the counter was lovely and let us know that cold water was available outside. When the oysters arrived, they were light and slightly briny. The fried clam roll was on a light brioche roll with bacon, pickled red onions, and a dill cream sauce. The combination of flavors was delicious. My husband had the roast pork shoulder sandwich which he said was just ok. It had chunks of roast pork although a piece I bit into had a large chunk of fat. The chili pepper mayo on the sandwich was quite good, though, and added a bit of spice. He had the broccoli rabe put on the side. Fortunately, umbrellas provided shade. Stick with the seafood appetizers and entrees as they are delicious. ”
“ As warm weather season approaches, so does the need for outdoor dining & shenanigans. Sweet Amalia is a hidden gem that is all but hidden if you know where to go or you know anyone who has been here - I've simply never heard a bad word about the place. I met my parents here for a quick lunch in the sun. We're all seafood lovers, and they particularly LOVE oysters. Sweet Amalia indeed, these were some damn good oysters - and they're JERSEY oysters. Who knew that could be a thing?! Sweet Amalia did, and oyster farming isn't the only art they've mastered. The market is adorable and the staff are all attentive, but the food truly shines here. We each tried a clam roll as well: the roll was perfectly buttered/grilled, the clams were well-battered/plentiful, and the sauce was just the right amount of tangy. Yum! It's outdoor dining only here; there are some picnic and bistro tables available, but feel free to bring your own camp chair & picnic blanket to set up in the grass. While packing, know that it's BYOB too - there are some local wines/cans available for purchase if you forget. The one thing I'd caution a visitor about: parking. It's limited, to be generous. Carpooling is suggested, as is patience. Good things (and great oysters) to those who wait. ”
“ The oysters at Sweet Amalia's are the best I've ever had anywhere in the world. The quality and taste of the oyster are 100. Before they were forced to close the indoor service, the service was great and always on top of taking care of the customers. Ambiance is casual and family oriented. Now it is take out or dining outside. We've order sandwiches and other food items that are not oysters. Never had a complaint about any dish. I just wish they weren't over an hour away or I'd eat their oysters multiple times a month or buy them to bring home and shuck myself. ”
“ My wife had been talking about this place for a few weeks. So on a recent shore trip we stopped for lunch. I honestly hadn't been impressed with what she brought back from her last visit (which was my son's leftover chicken) but figured they deserved a shot anyways. Apparently they started serving food during the pandemic and have since had an order to eliminate inside seating. Nonetheless, they have outdoor tables with umbrellas as long as the weather is good and you can always take it home or eat in your car. I have to admit, the market has some impressive looking produce and other goods for sale from some very solid companies. I enjoyed looking through everything while my wife ordered our lunch. She opted for two clam rolls, a side of fries, a summer salad they were doing and chicken cutlet for our four year old. We went outside to grab our table, and grabbed a few cold beers from the car (one of the good things about a BYOB). The staff brought out our food when it was ready in a few trips which is fine by us. I should also add that the entire staff there is phenomenal! The food looked beautiful, even the chicken that I didn't like the last time my wife brought it home. I tried a clam from my clam roll, it was perfectly fried with a light batter and the horseradish dill sauce was the perfect complement. The clam rolls are insanely good and I couldn't stop eating. Then I remembered we had a salad and I better have some if nothing more than to make my doctor happy. The salad was a mixture of arugula, peaches, bacon, shaved blue cheese and a sherry vinaigrette. It was one of the best salads I've had in a long time, so simple but with quality ingredients. And then of course like any good fat guy, I tried the fries...perfectly fried and salted (they're cut fresh as well). So good. Now, onto my only complaint here, I did give the chicken a try again since I know just how poorly fried food travels. I wanted to give them a fair shake on this. The chicken looked good from the outside, a brown crust on what appeared to be panko with visible salt for seasoning. Upon my first bite, the memories came back instantly. Dry chicken without flavor and the crust fell off. Pretty underwhelming and surprising given just how they were able to hit the ball out of the park on everything else. Although I wouldn't let this deter me from many return visits...I just won't order it. This place is worth a drive and bring your appetite. Also, bring plenty of space to take some more clam rolls with you when you leave. I've heard they have good oysters...I wonder if they're open today. ”
“ Let's get one thing clear the food is excellent. The chef does know flavors. I have to assume he is well educated. I would order the two soups every time. The sandwiches were excellent. The bread perfect. The breading on the chicken and the eggplant, perfect. They advertise that they own a local oyster farm. We were a little concerned about ordering oysters at a roadside stand restaurant. After observing everyone eating oysters we will be back to try them. The service was good. At least four different people interacted with us. Now. The reason this is not a five star review. I like dining outside like most popular do. However, I don't enjoy getting bit but bugs . The restaurant is all open air leaving no escape from the bugs. Next I understand that good food comes at a price. We had two sandwiches and two soups and one bottle of water at a roadside stand. The bill was $52.00 plus tip. Again the food was 5 stars. Service 4 stars the ambiance 2 stars. I say try it and you be the judge. ”
